LED is a semiconductor diode (P-N Junction) when energized emits light. When a light emitting diode is forward based, electrons are able to recombine with electron holes within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons LED is a diode semiconductor (pn junction) which when energized emits visible light, called LED (Light Emitting Diode). The process of light emission by applying an electrical source of energy is denominated electroluminescence.
In any P-N junction directly polarized within the structure, near the junction there is a recombination of electrons occurring. This recombination requires the energy possessed electrons, which until then were free to be released, which occurs in the form of heat or light photons.
